Mission 5 Level 2: X-labs

Objectives:

Locate and procure Deathshead's project book

Locate entrance to main Uber Soldat gestation area.

There is very little information about the "X-Labs" themselves. Our defecting scientist worked in weapons research, and although he is aware of the existence of the "X-Labs" he has never been there. He has however, informed us that the "X-Labs" do make extensive use of "Tesla" technology to create powerful, guided electrical fields. These are apparently used for everything from security gating to local power generation. It is also rumored that this technology is what drives the nervous systems of what our scientist calls the "X-creatures".

This last statement indicates that you will probably engage more of the "Lopers" that you first encountered at the Secret Weapons Facility, as well as other unknown types of "X-Creatures". You should proceed with caution into any new areas until you can ascertain what it is you are dealing with. Your ultimate mission is to discover exactly what Project "Uber Soldat" (Super Soldier) is and what Deathshead's ultimate plans for said project are. Be on the lookout for any documentation linking Deathshead's activities with Operation: Resurrection.


This level starts off with a brief cut-scene showing you the laboratories and the scientists at work. You can only guess at what kind of macabre creations this place spawns, but you can be sure that Deathshead is at the center of them.

Start off by running through the double doors straight ahead (there's some health to the room on the right, but you'll have to fight a couple of scientists for it). Clean the junction beyond out of troops, then take the only exit that isn't blocked by electricity. (You can also climb a nearby ladder to the catwalks above to get some health, ammo, and grenades).


Just beyond the door, look to you left and find the switch on the wall. This will activate the electricity foundtains on the door right in front of you, so be careful. Once it's on, turn the switch back off. This will remove the electricity and open a doorway out in the four-way junction you just came from.

Go back to the junction and proceed through a few more soldiers into a lab where a Loper breaks loose and goes on a killing spree. Put an end to it, then take the nearby ladder to the grated area overhead.


Take the only door out of the area to the catwalks above the main labs. Here you will see several Lopers break free and wipe out the attending scientists. Grab all the health and ammo in the area, then make your way quickly across the catwalks and through a door.


Be ready for a fight here, as a Loper will come lumbering through the doorway after it takes care of a scientist. Kill the Loper, then peek through the door frame. This will cause, unfortunately, another Loper to come flying up through a hole in the floor and attack you. Once this second one is dead, it's safe to proceed.


Follow the grated walkway until you come to another area with a hole in the middle fo the floor, flanked by two sets of double doors. Go first through the doors on the right to find an armory closet. Clear the area out, then brace yourself. You're going to have to go up against a Super Soldier prototype next.

Taking down the Super Soldier is really tough. He's got a Minigun attached to his arm, which means that you can't stay in his line of fire for long. Strikiking back with your own Minigun is tough. Instead, try to use Panzerfaust rockets if you have them (there are a few available in that armory closet in case you're out).


Once the SS Prototype is just another hunk of scrap metal and goo, turn around and go back into the armory closet. Go through the doors opposite the ones you came through and kill the Loper that comes up to meet you (be careful --it can shock you from below).


Drop down through the circular hole in the grated floor (the one with two pipes running through it). You will be back in the four-way junction near the beginning of the level, but a new path will be open to you. Run along the hallway past the cart with the square metal box. Soon you will notice a breached metal doorway to your right. Go through the hole and grab the nearby health.


Taking the metal doors out of this area will put you into the main lab that you saw the scientists masaccared in earlier. Don't worry --the Lopers are long gone. On a table in the middle of the lab you will find the project book, which is one of your mission objectives. Grab it and thumb through it if you like.


Backtrack out of the lab and take out any new Lopers that want to play. Climb the ladders up and return to the area where you fought the SS Prototype. There is a grated pathway leading into its pair, with a low railing on either side. Jump over the railing and fall down to the floor below.


Here you will see a short bridge with a grated floor over a pool of water. Jump down into the water. Swim through the underwater rooms and tunels, through a doorway and into a new area (stop to take breaths in pockets of air along the way).


You'll surface right in the middle of a fight between a Loper and a SS Prototype that doesn't even slow down when walking through concrete pillars. Take down the SS Prototype and go through the hallway on the left (going to the right will take you back near the beginning of the level).

After a short time you'll come out to a grated overpass above a laboratory where some Nazi guards are fighting a losing battle with some Lopers. Rush down the stairs and into the room while everyone is distracted and sprint to the control room in the back. Throw the lever you find there.

This will release TWO Super Soldier Prototypes, so be ready for one hell of a fight. One of the monsters will have a Venom Gun and the other will have a Panzerfaust. The best way to win this fight is to lure them back up the stairs, taking long distance shots at them with grenades and Panzerfaust rockets.

Once they're taken care of, go back into the concrete room they emerged from. There is a switch on the left-hand wall that will open the exit to the level.
