Mission 1, Level 2: Castle Keep

Mission Briefing:

Orders are as follows: Infiltrate Castle Wolfenstein and investigate increase in actvitiy from SS Paranormal Division. Gather any intelligence information you may find regarding said SS division and their activities in the area.

Kessler, your contact, is a member of a German resistance group called the Kreisau Circle. He has managed to partially infiltrate the SS Paranormal Division's temporary headquarters and has valuable information regarding their activities. Meet Kessler in the village near the archaeological dig site. He will have further information regarding your mission.

Remember: If you or Agent One are captured, escape at all costs. Standing Order #71 remains in effect: If you are placed in a compromising position where you might divulge information regarding your mission or the OSA, take your own life by ingesting your cyanide tablet. As always, the OSA will disavow any knowledge of your identity and mission if you are compromised.

As you start the mission, inch up slowly and listen to the guards talking to each other. It seems people are getting nervous, and security around the castle is being tightened.


You can start by entering the door to your immediate right, killing the officer and taking the meal for some health if needed. Back outside, the door to the left is locked, so make sure your weapon is loaded and make your way down the stairs. The alarm will go off shortly -- more soldiers are on the way. If you want, there's a room on the left with some health packs.


Once you've eliminated the soliders on the stairs, the Mauser is a good choice -- with careful aim, you can pick off the Nazis one at a time with well-placed headshots, even without the aid of a zoom. There are two on a catwalk above you -- take them out (enjoy them collapsing over the wooden guardrail), and move ahead to a spiral staircase and upward.


You'll get to the top of the stairs and emerge outside, where a number of soldiers will be waiting for you in a number of strategic locations. If you can, take out the soldier behind the crates, and then take cover in his location.


In the courtyard, you'll see another doorway with a red alarm flashing above it -- that's the door you want. Run inside. The first door on the right leads you back to where you started the level; continue straight instead.


Emerge from the door and look to the left -- this is the catwalk area you passed underneath earlier. Across the way some guards will emerge -- finish them off and turn off the cursed alarm.


Continue on and you'll find a control room and a switch, opening some additional doorways back in the courtyard. Before leaving, look at the note on the table from Helga Von Bulow, indicating they may have found the location of a "Dark Knight", and that an excavation team has been requested.


You can explore a little before backtracking outside -- there's another room with some health and ammo. Once outside, go to the door above the one with the flashing red light -- it will now be open, which should be obvious due to the soldier running out of it. Kill the guy and head inside.


The doorway straight ahead is locked -- take the door to the right and continue until you find some stairs leading down. There's a wine cellar on the right -- if you listen, you can hear some of the solders inside chatting, and you can even find a secret area if you go inside and take them out.


Take the pathway leading left -- you'll meet up with a group of soldiers and alarms should go off shortly after. There are about 4 or 5 soliders here, and after dispatching them, continue down the stairs on your left.


Once you arrive at the hallway with the glowing red light, get ready for another battle. You should be able to take out at least one soldier from this position, and then after moving out and looking to the left, take out the barrels, which should explode and take at least one other soldier with them.


There are a few other soldiers down here -- clear them out and pick up any supplies you can find along the way. There's plenty. Before heading upstairs, notice the locked door marked "Verboten", and unlocked door to the right with the red light above it. Go through the unlocked door and shoot the barrel , which will explode and lead you to a secret area with more supplies.


After some more exploring, you'll eventually need to open a gate, which will allow you passage to one of the rooms you were in before. The door with the red light above it is now unlocked -- go through, man the mounted machinegun, and take out the guards to the right, both up high and below.


If you want, go down the stairs and scrounge some more supplies, and then backtrack once again to the main courtyard. 4 new guards will stand in your way, but not as a group, and should present little challenge.


Once back in the courtyard, five more soliders will stand in your way -- one by the crates in the distance, another sniper up high on the left, two immediately outside the door, and one more hiding by the stairs.


There's one doorway you haven't been able to open yet, under the sniper position -- it's now open, so go through. Continue onward, going over the catwalk, enter the door on your right and go down the stairs to the next level.
